This book and I crossed paths awhile back in Philly. Came across it at a bookstore and was amazed that this actually exists! It's as if all the periods of time are converging into one. People are interested in vintage clothing, old school hip hop flows, old school experimental music making, and back to the spirit, etc.
(I'll draw out a diagram of what I'm talking about for a later post.)
HOWEVER, when is the last time we've seen people in a city riding horses as their main mode of transportation or just for the hell of it?! This riding community has been an integral part of the Northern Philadelphia community for over 100 years! It's great to see it happening in a community that may not be as privileged as many others.
From the Site:
"The mission of The Fletcher Street Urban Riding is to save and restore this historical, important facet of Philadelphia's community, and most importantly, its children. Fletcher Street's horse community is for many children, the only safe place to be mentored. Many of the boys that frequent Fletcher Street have little to no support in life and the men on Fletcher Street have consistently taken it upon themselves to provide a positive environment and sue facet of stability for those kids that have none. Fletcher Street is determined to preserve its legacy, children and horses."
